Here in Chicagoland its day #2 of the Canadian gift of smoke. I got an air purifier going in here, windows shut and AC on but you can still smell it. Its not the pleasant smell of a wood burning fireplace its like someone is burning trash. My sinuses and throat were bothering me during the night so I wanted to see if there was a connection with our friends to the North. I found a Canadian government site that gave a pretty good description, AND THEN SOME!
for symptoms it listed the following:
Symptoms and health effects of wildfire smoke exposure
Wildfire smoke can cause a variety of symptoms or health effects that can range in severity. Some symptoms or health effects are more common than others.
Milder and more common symptoms of smoke exposure include:
- headaches
- a mild cough
- production of mucus
- nose, throat, eye and sinus irritation
In many cases, you can manage these symptoms without medical intervention.
More serious but less common symptoms of smoke exposure include:
- dizziness
- wheezing
- chest pains
- severe cough
- asthma attacks
- shortness of breath
- heart palpitations (irregular heart beat)
If you experience any of these symptoms, talk to a health care provider or seek urgent medical attention.
Less commonly, exposure to wildfire smoke can lead to:
- stroke
- heart attack
- premature death
- reproductive and developmental effects, such as low birth weight
If you think you are having a medical emergency, dial 9-1-1 and seek immediate medical care.
Factual and just what I was looking for.
Mild cough, check, production of mucus, check, nose, throat, eye and sinus irritation, check. Sounds like me allright.
But now they get into Trudeau’s woke politics. After the last paragraph I am surprised Trudeau didn’t accuse Trump of starting it. The last paragraph is really comical I wonder if AOC wrote that one.
Who is most at risk of the health effects of wildfire smoke
During heavy smoke conditions, everyone is at risk regardless of their age or health.
Some people are more likely to experience symptoms or health effects when exposed to wildfire smoke because of their life stage, existing illness, or health conditions. Others are at higher risk because they are more likely to be frequently exposed to wildfire smoke.
In general, those who are most at risk of health effects of wildfire smoke are:
- people with an existing illness or chronic health conditions, such as lung or heart conditions
- people aged 65 and older
- infants and young children
- pregnant people
- people with increased likelihood of exposure due to location or occupation, such as:
- people living in rural and remote areas
- people involved in strenuous outdoor exercise
- people who work outdoors, including wildland firefighters
- people living in situations of lower socioeconomic status such as:
- those with lower income
- those with lower education
- those experiencing housing insecurity
- those experiencing uncertain employment
“Pregnant people” just let that sink in. Sounds like if you say pregnant women your guilty of hate speech. As for the last 4 it sounds like an American “hand out” program.
I think I know the cause of the smoke however. Someone gave Trudeau a pile of woke liberalism and told him to put that in his pipe and smoke it and he did! I wonder if they try to work climate change in this, I am surprised Pope Leftie Leo is not already railing on this, or maybe he is I seldom look at liberal media.
