This morning at my TLM we had an Augustinian Novus Ordo priest who is currently a high school teacher studying for his Doctors degree. Nice guy but he had the look of the Novus Ordo about him. All I could think of was, Augustinian? Oh no a Prevost priest. What is this about.
Canon had the mass but the Augustinian did the sermon which was touchy feely typical Novus Ordo content. After some tong in cheek comments on the gospel he cut to the chase. The main purpose of his visit was to tap us for his doctorate thesis which was a survey on “Liturgical Policy Development and its Regulatory Effects within Catholic Communities”. Say that 10 times real fast!
I was shocked that he helped with communion but to my delight he did it properly on the tong using Latin. I don’t think he knows how to read a Latin mass so I could only think Canon must of coached him on the communion rubrics. The strange part again which is particular to the Novus ordo was the personal contact during communion. Usually a TLM priest would give a simple blessing with the sign of the cross to anyone not receiving communion which is usually the children. In his case he patted them on the shoulder, which I thought was a little creepy but harmless.
Initially I was going to take a pass on the survey but then I thought, this would be a golden opportunity to voice my opinion of the TLM and the Vaticans mistreatment of us and how determined we are to fight the Vatican abuse of us.
I did take the survey and I urge every TLM Catholic to do like wise. This is our chance to not only voice our support of the TLM but also show the Novus Ordo crowd we will not be silenced.
